Airtight roof

It is always best to prevent problems. As for martens, in their case the best preventive action is sealing the roof. All windows and openings in the attic should be protected by a fairly dense mesh that no predator can slide through. It is also worth making it difficult for martens to get to the attic by wrapping gutters, e.g. with barbed wire. It is important to think carefully about the choice of roof insulation material. Expanded polystyrene and mineral wool for marten are not a big obstacle - they can easily create communication routes. A good choice will be the PIR insulation board, which is resistant to martens, but also to mice, rats, mosses and lichen.

Chase away an unwanted guest

But what should we do when the marten has already lived in our attic? We have several options. One of them is the purchase of a special sound repellent, which emits unpleasant signals, only heard by marten. We can also buy a scent repellent, which, however, can be sensitive to domestic dogs and cats. Setting a live trap for martens is another effective method. The animal enters it, after which the door slams, and the marten cannot leave it. However, he is not injured. It's best to lure the animal with a treat: an egg or a sandwich with honey After catching the predator, the trap should be taken somewhere far away from residential buildings and released there.
